1950 Chris Craft Sportsman

A local boat to the tri-state area that a gentleman has owned for many years and had previously stripped with plans to refinish himself. Many years had gone by with no further work being done on the boat. He, and his wife were beginning to wonder if they would ever be able to enjoy skimming across the water in gleaming varnished mahogany. He saw one of our other recently restored Sportsmans (a U-22) on his lake and called us the next week asking to be put on the restoration schedule, which we were happy to accommodate. This 17’ Sportsman is a very fun and easy to navigate boat. It has ample power with the larger ‘K’ engine and can be trailered with most full-size automobiles. No Suburban needed for towing here. We started with a new 5200 bottom, replaced the soft chine and bottom transom plank, made new splash rails, new engine box sides, then moved onto the refinish, replacing the upholstery, re-chroming, new flooring, and changed the plastic wrap-around windshield with a more attractive prewar chrome brackets and safety glass…a nice change.
