There were several very successful lapstrake boat manufactures that had the reputation for building strong, dry, and very utilitarian boats. One of them was Thompson. Not only were they well built, they were also very attractive with their signature ‘lemon’ yellow hullsides with mahogany trim and topsides. Their designs also allotted for an assortment of outboard power.
This particular Thompson came to the shop only in need of some new flooring, minor attention to the bottom and a general spruce up on the finish. It’s always nice to have a boat in the shop that’s been well taken care of. And this owner has obviously been a good custodian for this cute lapstrake. There’s not a lot to say other than we had some learning curve time in getting up to speed on this manufacturer and the specific idiosyncrasies of these boats. Even then, we thoroughly enjoyed working on her and hope her owner will continue the good care, which I’m confident he will.
